Jax the Builder..can he fix it?!

Friday 25

The meterologists predicted a huge snow/ freezing rain storm.  Schools and stores closed up early.  And it snowed less than an inch before turning to freezing rain.  It was an icy mess-but not like the news made it out to be.

Saturday 26

Sunday 27

Both kids were playing with the AT-AT Driver and Death Star.  Jax even did a video!

Snow Day!

After having a gorgeous weekend in the 70's, it only seemed fitting that we have snow this week!

Img_0920

I was actually amazed that Julie tolerated her boots and coat in order to go out.  (She hates coats!)  Jaxson on the other hand, was all decked out to play in the snow!

Img_0921

We had fun playing in the "dusting."  Jax and Julie both threw snowballs.

Img_0932

And then they just ran around in the snow.  Julie didn't like walking in the snow, but she sure loved her boots.  Jax grew cold after about 10 minutes and really needed hot cocoa.

Img_0935

I don't blame him.  Snow is great in theory, but it really is just glorified water.  Julie and I were cold too.  Hot Cocoa and marshmallows sounded great!

5 Years Old {Jax}

Well.  How did this happen?

Img_0899

There I was holding him for the first time in my arms, and poof!  I'm now registering him for Kindergarten.

Time flies when you are having fun!

Jax is a very sweet boy.  He's a really good big brother to Julie.  And yes, they do fight, but today when Julie wanted a book read to her, he asked her, "Baby do you want me to read for you?"  She enthusiastically said "uh-huh!" and he read three board books to her.  Way too cute.

But before you get the idea that he is the perfect big brother, he also invented a game called "Push Baby."  It involves running "the circle hallway" around the house and pushing Julie when he catches up to her.  She doesn't seem to mind, but I'm sure there is other games to play that she would enjoy more.  So that game has been banned from this house.

He loves, loves, loves Sunday School.  I think his favorite part is the when he gets to sing with Ms. Geri.  He knows all the motions to the songs and the words!  I think he is counting down the days until he can join children's choir and church and ring some handbells.

He is obsesed with all thing Angry Birds.  And Star Wars.  Even better...Angry Bird Star Wars!

He's starting to get into Legos as well.  Those things are tiny.  They about drive me to go and get some bifocals so I can see them!

He's also into YouTube.  There is one channel that he loves.  It's a boy about his age the reviews Angry Bird toys.  I'm not even kidding.  So now Jaxson has taken on pretending to do videos and will review his toys.

He is very excited to go to Kindergarten.  Me?  Not so much.  But I know it will be so good for him.  He will loves to learn and will have so much fun making new friends.  In Tot School, he loves to read and art.  Letters have always come very naturally to him so when we started working on sight words, he picked it right up.  His least favorite subject is math.  He just does not care about those numbers no matter how I present it to him.  But I can't blame him.  Justin and I are the same way.  We love to read.  Math?  Eh.

He's also very logical.  When he found out that Santa came down the chiminey he looked at me quizically and asked why Santa doesn't use the front door.  I told him he had a good idea and that would be smart of Santa.  Or when he was told that Jesus lived in his heart, he really thought there was a person in his heart.  And when he had a cut on his finger he told me that Jesus would have to walk from his heart down his arm and to his hand in order to heal it.  I didn't know what to say with that one-so I just went with that story.

Here's a trip down memory lane....

Happy Birthday Jax!  We love you so much!

Playing Mama

Julianne has really been a character lately.  A couple of nights back, she disappeared from the living room.  So I went to investigate and found her in the hallway bathroom like this:

Img_0799

She had gotten out a diaper, the wipes, and her dolly.  Can you guess what she was doing?

Img_0800

Why yes, she was diapering her dolly.  She would get a wipe out, wipe her dolly's bottom, and then repeat.  Ten wipes later, I finally stopped her.  I really felt that her dolly's bottom was clean enough.

Img_0801

She was so proud of herself.  After the 10th wipe, both Jax and I were laughing and poor Julie wasn't sure why.  But she sure was having fun!

I think the funniest part is her poor dolly laying facedown on the floor.  I guess to Julie that was logical, but it probably isn't comfortable for the dolly!

Pre-School Letter Yy

Jax is 4 1/2 years old.

Bible

Img_0767

Our Bible verse this week is "You are my friends if you do what I command.  John 15:14."  We learned about the story of baby Jesus and how Mary had to ride on a donkey to Bethlehem.  It only seemed fitting to play Pin the Tail on the Donkey, don't you think?  Printable was from First Look Curriculum at Orange.

Math

Img_0652

Suddenly this week something just clicked in Jaxson about adding!  He has been telling me that 1+1=2 and that 2+2=4.  This worksheet was from RRSK.

Sight Words

Img_0653

Jaxson was working on a Word Search from YCR.

We also had a guest at Tot School.  Someone is no longer taking naps and is really messing up my schedule!

Img_0768

While Jax was coloring one of his sight words, Julie colored along as well.

Science

Img_0764

I had seen this science experiment on pinterest and wanted to try it out.  We put candy canes in water to see the stripes come off.  They were supposed to dissolve in the water with the stripes intact, but ours didn't do that.  And as you can see from the multi-colored candy cane, it just made a murky mess.  Still fun though.  We left the candy canes in until they dissolved!

Theme

Jax still loves Yo Gabba Gabba so I found some printables from Nick Jr.  He loved playing the Memory game and learned how to play Dominos.

Welcome 2013

Well, it's 2013 now.  And it doesn't feel much different than yesterday.  Last night I didn't even try to stay up late.  I went to be at 10.  Fell asleep soon after and then slept into today.  So if my New Year's Resolution was to sleep a lot, I would have been on top of my game!

But I don't make New Year's Resolutions only because I'm perfect just the way I am.  Hardy-har-har.

I did start thinking about my goals for 2013.  I should have them pounded out in the next couple of days.  I did this last year and I loved seeing what I was accomplishing.  Even when there were days that I felt I did nothing at all, I knew in the grand scheme of things, I was making progress.

I see some people are choosing words for 2013.  I thought that was a great idea until I couldn't come up with a word.  Gratitude?  Organize?  Wonder?  Simple?  They all sound great until I realize that I would have to actually put them to work.  Which would be like making goals.  And see the paragraph above for that.

So for me today was just another day.  I cleaned out Julie's room.  I know have a big mound of stuff to take to the thift store.  I put together Tot School work for tomorrow.  And I went to the store and bought some milk.  I lead a very exciting life.

The highlight of my day was finding my 1000 Gift journal that I had lost a couple of weeks ago.  Which it is now obvious that I fell off the wagon on listing gifts.  So I'm starting back up.  It's so neat to see what I had written this past year.

2012

warm blankets

iced coffee

the four of us piled in bed

pre-schoolers singing to Jesus

a bunny visits every once and a while in our backyard

facetime

Jax packed a bag to entertain himself while we were running errands and even packed Julie some toys!

hugs from Julie

Julie fell-and Jax comforted her

Jax catching his first fish!

garden fresh tomatoes

None of these were earth shattering.  But it was neat to read through them.  I ended up with #293 so I didn't fail completely.  My journal is back on my kitchen counter tonight.  Ready to count more gifts.

#294 Welcome 2013.
