Spring Cleaning and Kindergarten Orientation

Spring is in the air!  It finally turned 70 degrees and we were so excited.  Jax could proudly wear his "armpit shirts" again.  (translation:  tank tops)  And I decided that every closet needs some serious cleaning out.  So I have embarked on a journey that should be complete by spring of next year.  Ha!  I kid.  But it is a big task because we seem to accumulate a lot in two years of being here.  How does that happen?  My conclusion is that clutter breeds all by itself.  It needs no help from us at all.

In addition to spring cleaning, I've noticed that both Target and Walmart are having huge clearances in the home decoration section.  I found really cute frames, accent rugs, and candles all for....wait for it....$1 each!  It was a steal, in my opinion.  And then I found shoe organizers and two tiered shelves on clearance that would work great for organizing some toys.  And so, I've been having fun.  My motto is-if I haven't used it in a year, it's outta here!

Img_1594

And then last night, I took Jaxson to Kindergarten orientation.  I sat there in the school gym thinking, "How did this happen?  Didn't I just bring him home from the hospital in his cute newborn outfit?"  Jax was pretty excited.  They gave the kids snacks and a goody bag.  And then the kindergarten teachers took them to to the classrooms to read, play, and color.  Jax practically jumped up from his chair when they called the kids to follow the teachers.  Meanwhile, us parents could learn the ropes of the school.

It was a good meeting.  We have a Kindergarten lunch social to go to next week.  The school works really hard in getting the kids used to the school even before they get there in the fall!  I'm thankful for that.

Well, back to the closets now.  I have a pile of junk that's calling my name!

25 Months

Julianne is 25 Months!

Img_1409

Julianne is really into Dora right now.  Jaxson watched Dora and Diego once and while when he was younger, but never really got into it.  But Julianne-now there's a girl that really loves Dora.  But she gets really stressed when Swiper comes on the screen.  She can't say Swiper, but will motion for him to stop.  It seems like I have to reassure her to not worry about Swipper.  And if you tell her, "Swiper, no swiping!" she will say, "Oh man!" just like Swiper does.  It's pretty cute.

Julianne loves to sing.  Jaxson comes home from Sunday School singing all his songs and she wants to sing along.  We've taught her the motions and every night before she goes to bed-we SING!  She gives me the song requests and we sing Itsy-Bitsy Spider, Dora's Theme song, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, etc.  At the end of each song, she asks for "more" and I take one look into her big blue eyes and say yes.

What can I say?  I'm a softie.

We've recently discovered that she loves the Vanilla Cupcake Flavored Goldfish.  One day we ran out.  It was very traumatic and she had some great big crocodile tears over that.  I ended up calling Justin and telling him to pick some up on the way home from work.  I learned an important lesson that day.  Vanilla Cupcake Flavored Goldfish can make or break your day when there is a toddler in the house.

Julianne has officially moved up from the nursery to the 2 year old play area at church.  She was pretty hesitant about moving up and it took a couple of tries.  I don't blame her-she had a good thing going in that nursery area....they rocked her, played with her, and told her how fantastic she was.  But in the play area, they tend to encourage the kids to play in centers with each other.  Luckily, Julie knows that any lap is basically an invitation to sit and cuddle.  It's funny.  One Sunday when I came to pick her up, they told me that she really loves to cuddle.

Why yes.  I am well aware of that.

But Julie is adjusting well in there and has plenty of "friends" to play with.

Img_1535

Julie is starting to play dress up.  She saw that Jaxson was a pirate and wanted to be one as well.  She grabbed the headband and eye patch and put them on the best she could.  Then she ran up to us saying, "Argh!"  She was a pretty cute, I mean scary, pirate!

Happy 25 Months Julianne!

Easter Egg Hunt

Today was the Easter Egg hunt at church!  Both kids were pretty excited.

Img_1407
When we got there, Jax immediately ran to work on crafts.

Img_1418
He was gluing tissue paper to a cross.  This was by far his favorite thing to do!

Julie's age group was up first to hunt!

Img_1423

She gathered up a few eggs.  I think she was mostely wondering why she was gathering eggs in the first place!  But she seemed to have fun!

Jax's group was up next.

Img_1434

He was very much in "hunting mode" and he was off like lightning!

Img_1416

After all that hard work, Julie really needed a snack....

Img_1452

Love her plan of attack on that messy cupcake.  And yes, she was wearing it as well in the end!

Lastly, Julie joined in the crafts too.  Jax had was making his third creation and Julie realized she was missing out!

Img_1444

Afterwards, we came home and hung up our creations.  Jax really wanted to hang them on the front door so everyone could see them, but we settled for the front window instead.  You know, in case it rains or snows (shudders) because you know...it is Spring!

Img_1454

Hmmm...I think they add a lovely touch to our window....

Mama? No. Mama? No?

Yesterday the kids went to their Well Child check up!  Sounds so much fun, doesn't it?

I mean, look at those excited faces!

[[posterous-content:pid___0]]

It was funny.  Julianne wanted to do EVERYTHING that Jax was doing.  So when Jax got weighed, she wanted to jump on the scale too.  In fact, she did after he was done.  Poor girl still had to be weighed on the baby scale, much to her dismay.

Afterwards, the kids both had blood work done and Jaxson went first.  They just poked his finger and gathered up drops of blood.  He didn't cry or whine about it.  So when it was Julie's turn, I thought she would turn into a drama queen.  I was wrong.  She sat there so patiently and was so happy to have a bandaid.

I think she was more concerned about doing the same things as Jaxson that she wasn't about to complain!  The nurse doing this was so surprised by Julianne's bravery.

Julie didn't need any shots, but Jax needed 3!  Earlier we told him he was only getting one shot, so I felt bad that there were two extras.  But he was very brave.  When the nurse gave him his shots, he would just say "ow."  Again, she let me know I had some brave kids!

Seriously.  I'm not sure where their courage came from, but I won't complain!

We promised him ice cream, so later in the day we went to Sugarland and Jax got the Cookies and Cream Gelato.  Justin and I got the Pistachio.  I have yet to find a gelato there that is just mediocre.  That place is just that good!

[[posterous-content:pid___1]]

Here are the "lefties" eating their gelato. Jax is explaining to Justin that he can't eat it fast or he will get a headache.  I wonder how he knows that?

[[posterous-content:pid___2]]Want some?

[[posterous-content:pid___3]]Us girls really enjoyed it too!

[[posterous-content:pid___4]]

While going out for ice cream and running errands, Julianne was playing with the binoculars.  She kept saying, "Mama?  No.  Mama? No.  After a while, I turned around to see this:

[[posterous-content:pid___5]]

I figured out she was playing a game.  She was looking for me in the binoculars!  And so I played along with her and when she found me through the binoculars she said, "Mama?  Yes!"  Way too funny.  I'm glad she was having fun in the backseat.

It was busier than I intended it to be yesterday.  But the gelato made up for it!

24 Months {Julianne}

Well.  She's two years old now.  What in the world....

Img_1183

Oh, she is such a cutie.  I've noticed that she walks on her tippy toes.  Is this a girl thing?  I like to think that she is preparing for when she wears wedges or high heel boots! Ha!

She LOVES to swim.  She is such a little fish in the water.  I was very impressed with her as she likes to jump in the water with the help of us and the life jacket!  She has no fear once she got used to the water.  She is totally Justin's girl.

Img_1249e

She is talking so much more, but we noticed that she won't talk around anyone else but us.  She will act like she doesn't know how to say, which is unusual because she always know what she wants and lets us know too!

Her new words are jump, bounce, map, and big ball.  I'm sure there is more that I'm forgetting.

She still doesn't move fast.  But I also have learned to say, "On your mark, get set, go!" and she will take off running.  And she is a fast runner when she wants to be.

She now really stands up to Jaxson and will fight about it.  I will usually hear,  "No Julie (from Jax)...and then she will shout no and fight right back.  She also doesn't like anyone playing with her toys.  She will say "no" very loudly and hold out her hand (in the stop gesture).  She means business!

Img_1286

She loves, loves, loves Dora the Explorer.  It has replaced Pingu which we were all grateful for.  She answers Dora and will sing along with the map.  It's pretty cute and fun to watch her interact with the show.

Happy 24 months Julie!

22 Months {Julianne}

Julianne is 22 months!

Img_0770

She is up to a lot these days.

She likes to do her hair with me.  Which really  means that she makes her hair frizzy by pretend combing it.  Also, her dolly is subjected to such torture at times.  So cute that we are bonding while doing our hair though.

Whenever she is thinking hard, she will put her index finger up to her mouth and say, "Hum."  So funny.  She also shruggs her shoulders if she doesn't know an answer to a question.

She will say "Ah-uh" when she means yes.

She's taken to gymnastics on our couch and ottoman.  She will swing her body while hanging onto the ottoman and couch.  And yes, she falls at times.  But she is determined to do every single thing that Jax does.

Img_0774

Happy 22 months Julianne!

Happiness is....

....a really big beach ball!

Img_1322

One of the perks of Justin being a Youth Pastor is that he can take some of his work home with him!

Namely, a reallyreallyreallyreallyreally big beach ball that they used at Youth Group last night.  (I was surprised it has lasted through Youth Group and didn't pop!)

Img_1325

The kids were surprised to see it this morning and have a blast with it.  And how funny is Julianne carrying this beach ball?

Img_1330
It reminds me of an ant carrying a really big crumb....I'm really impressed that she she can carry it!

Friday, March 8, 2013

After all....tomorrow is another day.

Thanks to Katie Scarlet, I have a title on my post.

And a better outlook for today.  As you remember, yesterday was challenging.  And most days aren't like that-I think that is why I was caught off guard.

But today?  It was like any normal day.  Watching Dora explore, building the Rancor Pit with legos, Jax learning how to make a time laspe video, and a bouquet of flowers from Justin.

Ok.  The flowers were a surprise.  But a good surprise!

Confession time:  I think I may enjoy building with Legos more than the kids!

Img_1302

I helped Jax rebuild his Rancor Pit.  And then he added to it making it Jabba's Palace.  (You know, the palace lego set that only cost $100!  Sheesh.)  I'm glad that he is using his creativitiy and building his own palace.

Jax also started to tell me all about his favorite YouTube videos that use time lapse to make the lego building go faster.  I told him that Daddy knew how to do it.  But he didn't believe me.

When Daddy came home, guess what they worked on together?

Img_1303

Jax's very own time lapse video.  Jax couldn't believe how long it took just to make one.  And they did a pretty short one to begin with!  Here it is:

movie.mov Watch on Posterous

Not bad, huh?

Meanwhile, Julie and I were taking "selfies."  Obviously, she was taking the picture.

Img_1304

The best surprise of the day was flowers from Justin!  I can't wait until they open up!

Img_1306

I'm so thankful the kids were a bit calmer today and I didn't find anything weird in the freezer.

'Cause some days, I should just stay in bed!

Seriously.  My kids were crazy today!  Do you ever have days like this?

In the bath, Jax decided he needed to shampoo Julie's hair.  He used my shampoo.  And yes, as you can guess, Julie had soap in her eyes and it was some major drama.

After everyone was (finally) ready, I asked Julie if I could get her picture.  Usually, she scrunches up her face and say "cheese!".  But not today.  She was adament that she was not going to cooperate and kept saying "no!"  (Talk to the hand.....)

[[posterous-content:pelfIqbqgqbukmvJbkJB]]

As I was (trying!) to clean the house, I caught of glimpse of Jax rolled up like a burrito while watching TV.  Um, ok?

[[posterous-content:ofCgfjDcnbmEudhlCkun]]

Jax had decided later on, to push Julie off her "perch" (the arm of the couch).  Of course, she falls and hits her chin on the TV stand.  Really, Jax?!  Really?

I found a paper airplane and a pan with a pom-pom in it when I opened the freezer.  I'm pretty sure that was Jax's doing, as Julie can' reach the freezer yet.  (Atleast, I hope she's not getting into the freezer yet!)

[[posterous-content:oJwDdynCfqyGnxnabbkI]]

I needed to run to the store after nap times.  And boy, that was an adventure.  Jax chose a Yoda Easter basket at Kmart that he desperately needed.  I had to tell him no, and he did not like that one bit.   I almost left him in the store!  'Cause I'm not spending $17 bucks on a Yoda Easter basket.  Just sayin'.

But kudos to Kmart for putting those Easter baskets smack dab in the front of the store.  I bet no kid misses the Elmo, Star Wars, Princess, etc. baskets.....

We then proceeded to Food Lion and our trip was redeemed a bit because they had a little cart for Jax.  Lately, those carts have not been at the front of the store-just for Jax.  This helped out our trip a bit.

[[posterous-content:sheCFdAIfCHvjolCacls]]But, I have to be careful when he has his own cart...he becomes a shopping machine!  All sorts of random things end up in his cart!

[[posterous-content:asHwnwHxnCHHsqoEvrin]]

I was thankful when Justin walked in the door.  Now I could send the kids to him and catch a breath!

I love my kids, but there are just some days that if I knew what the day would be like, I would just stay in bed! Ha!

An "off" day. (

23 Months {Julianne}

Img_1011

Julie is a bit of a dawdler.  She doesn't walk fast and she doesn't eat fast.  She is content on moving at her own pace.  But you know how you get Juile moving? These 8 little words do just the trick!

"Julie, I didn't get my morning hug yet!"

Jax says that to her every morning.  I'm not sure why he needs a morning hug each day, but this sure makes Julie run...in the other direction.  Cause to Jax, a hug means a huge-bear-hug-lift-her-feet-off-the-ground kind of hug.  It's a funny sight.  Most of the time she allows it but there are times that she just runs in the opposite direction

She is making up words and I'm suppose to know what she is saying!  She will come up to me and say, "fdsldu ogjd sfajkj gaslk lkjf?."  And I am supposed to answer that!  Usually I just say ok.  I never want to say "yes."  That could really cause for some misunderstanding!

She now says "Spongebob."  I'm such a proud momma.  She says Nah Nah for car.  If I tell her we are going somewher she says, Nah, Nah? and gets her shoes.  Num Num is food.  Among her other words or phrases is foul ball, one more, uh oh, momma, dadda all done,

She always is carrying something in her arms.  It usually is her dolly (that she diapers!) but sometimes it a purse filled with all sorts of stuff. Her crib is filled with toys.  Every time she goes down for a nap or bed, she makes sure she has toys to play with.  If I remember right, Jax did the same thing around this age.

Img_0972

She can jump with both of her feet off the ground.  She works so hard at it and practiced for a long time.

She sits on a perch to watch tv.  Her favorite show is Pingu.  And if we watch something else, she falls on the floor and cries.  She is usually over it in 5 seconds.

16 Months {Julianne}

Img_2103
It really just seems like I was trying get a picture of Julie for her 15 month post.

And now I'm here again.

Julianne discovered she can twirl around.  And she's so girly doing it.  But she was so proud of herself when she discovered she could do it.

She loves the song, Wheels on the Bus.  She can do the motions with Barney.  Which always reminds me that I have several more years with Barney, don't I?

She is so silly.  Once night at dinner, she put her spoon on her cheek and it stuck.  She was so impressed.  She also likes to put a puzzle box on her head and wear it as a hat.  She is the silliest little girl.

She reminds me so much of my little sister when she was young.  When I was 9, she was 2 and I remember her being silly and doing funny stuff.

She climbs on all of the furniture now.  I used to use our brown couch as a holding area for things that Julie should not touch.  Imagine my surprise when she had my iPhone the other day.  Nothing is safe anymore.

And speaking of electronics, she will try to get the iPad and can unlock it and go into the photos and start the slide show.  I have no idea how she does it, but then she sits back and watches it.  She will just laughing at all of the pictures of her and Jax.  I'm pretty impressed.

Happy 16 Months, Julianne!

More Jaxisms

Img_1130
Oh the funny things kids say.  Seriously, I laugh everyday because of how Jax interprets the world.  Enjoy.

2/13 Jax talking about the cross after Ash Wednesday:  In walking to the car, he asked me if the nails hurt Jesus.  I told him yes.  And then he said that he didn't want to go on the cross with the nails.  That it would hurt him.  I told him that he didn't have to because Jesus did that for him.  He seemed relieved.  I think he was just trying to figured out the reason why we have the cross on our heads!

2/18 While driving in the car, Jax told me that his imaginary friend Vicki was going to China because she wanted to eat spaghetti.  I'm pretty sure that you go to Italy to eat spaghetti, not China.  But I wasn't about to correct Vicki on that one.

2/18 I was taking out my earrings and Jax asked me why I had them.  I told him that they make my ears look pretty.  He said, "No...they help you hear."  I told him that I wasn't joking but he didn't believe me.

2/19 Jaxson was sitting up front in the car while we were parked, and he looked into the rear view mirror and told us that it is for checking our eyes.  Ha!  So we told him that we use the mirror to make sure that are eyes are still in our head while driving. He really believed us!  But then we told him the truth of why we need it.

2/19 You know when Jaxson's imagination is going above and beyond when he tells me that he texted his (imaginary) friend Vicki so she would call him today.  He was using one the old iphones and "texting" in the search area.  Too funny!

Ash Wednesday {Theology according to Jax}

Img_1061
We had our Ash Wednesday service at church.  I had planned to go by myself.  It didn't start until 7 o'clock and that is when it is bewitching hour with Julie (aka bedtime!) and I was pretty sure that Jax didn't want to go.

I was wrong.

Once I told him that I was going to church and he found out I was getting a cross on my head, he wanted to come!  And then he told me he remembered last year where Justin and I had crosses on our heads and he thought it was a T and wanted an A on his head.  I was very surprised he remembered that!

And so Jaxson and I went to service.  And he was so good!  He was eagerly awaiting for his cross on his head.  And when time came, he was such a big boy!

When we got back to our pew, he looked at me and told me I looked funny in my cross!  Ha!

After service, when we were walking out to our car, Jax asked me about Jesus being on the cross.

When we have read the Bible to him, I give him the bare bones story of the cruxification.  He knows that Jesus was on a cross with nails and that it hurt.  In walking to the car, he asked me if the nails hurt Jesus.  I told him yes.  And then he said that he didn't want to go on the cross with the nails.  That it would hurt him.  I told him that he didn't have to because Jesus did that for him.  He seemed relieved.  I think he was just trying to figured out the reason why we have the cross on our heads!

And when we got home, he proudly showed his cross to Daddy and Julianne!  I was glad to share the time with him, but I'm not sure I know any other 5 year old that get excited about having a cross on his head!

Snow!

Yesterday it was was 68 degrees.  We wore flip flops and short sleeves.  And when Justin came home from work, I told him it might snow.  He didn't believe it.

But look!  It really did snow!

Jaxson is trying to catch snowflakes on his tongue.  He said they tasted yummy!

We went outside after it had been snowing for hours. We threw a couple of snow balls....walked around...and then decided we were cold and went back inside!

This was the one thing Jax was most excited about-making a snow angel.  He could have used some more snow, but you can sort of see the outline....

I'm sure this will all be gone tomorrow.  This just goes to show, you can't put away your flip flops during winter!

Happy Valentine's Day!

It's Valentine's Day!  Jax was so happy because he couldn't wait to open a box that Alma had sent.  He had no idea that I had gotten them something as well.  He was pretty excited to open his gift.

Julie received The Little Mermaid bath toys and Jax got the Angry Bird Eary Bird set.  He was so excited since he wanted the Princess Leia bird.

Img_1067

I tried to get a picture of both of them, but this is the best I could do.  Julie was chomping on heart candy and Jax just wanted to play with his toys.

Img_1071
They played for a long time, but what really gets me is when Julie pulled up a box and sat in it!  Julie was watching Pingu while reading an Elmo book.

After naptimes, we went and got the mail.  I love how Julie has to accessorize just to go to the mail box!
Img_1079

Jax was so excited to get a letter from Alma!  He loves getting mail and boxes and get so annoyed when a letter or box is for someone else.

And finally, we were playing with our toys again.  The box had been cast aside and she was playing with Ariel!  (And getting soaking wet!)

It was a nice and quiet Valentine's Day!

Pink and Purple Legos Please!

It was a little bit of a dreary day on Monday.  And when I checked my weather app and saw it was 100% humidity, I knew it was not going to bode well for my hair at all.  And same for Julie.  She goes frizzy and my hair just goes straight flat.

So we needed to do something preferably indoors.

Anways, we decided to take the children to the mall.  Jax is in LOVE with legos and they have a lego store where he can drool all over the Jabba the Hut Star Wars playset.  (It's only $100!  And you can take Han Solo out of the carbonite!  And Oola is in their as well!)

Can you tell that I've heard all the selling points to this playset from a certain 5 year old?

And so we oohh and ahhh-ed over the playset.  And then we proceeded over to the lego table to build.  Because were were there on a Monday, the store was empty and we could play all we wanted!

Img_1045
Both Jax and Julie really got into it.

Img_1043

I mean, really got into it!

Img_1044
Jax used the pieces to make a helicopter.

Here is Jax's finished helicposter.  As you can see, Julie only used the pink and purple legos.  And them sorted them out in a line.  Not sure what I should think about that other than she has fantastic taste in color choices!

I am so, so glad we live close to the mall where we have some fun stores to play in on those rainy days!
