Jax has been playing outside a lot lately. It’s nice out and he has a lot of energy to burn.
Unfortunately, he has spent some of that energy rolling in the grass. Which normally wouldn’t be a big deal, but we live in Bugville. (Tiny geckos occasionally stroll through our yard as well.) And luck would have it, Jax got bit a couple of times by a little critter.
And normally they itch, they heal, and then they go away. But not this time.
This morning, I noticed he had a bigger bug bite. But by 5pm, that bit had turned into a welt. It was red, angry, and streaking up his calf leg. I decided to mark the edges of the streaks with a marker to keep an eye on it.
And let’s just say, I got a little worried. I had images of going to the ER and waiting hours because although this is scary, is it an emergency? And really? Did I really have to notice this at 5pm on a Friday evening. Doctors offices are closed, right?
I decided to call his pediatrician just in case they were open. And they did answer the phone! I was able to leave a message with the nurse. She called back within the half hour and wanted us to come down immediately.
This is when I found out that they are actually open until 7pm. Oh, how I love living in a big city!
And Jax was so excited to go to the doctor and show him/her his “boo boo.”
The doctor took a look at his bites and said that it was a good thing we brought him in. If not treated, the bites could get an abscess on it and it would have to be drained. Gross. But since we are treating it early, instead Jax gets a big dose of antibiotics and antibiotic cream to put on the bites.
While the prescription was being faxed in, we went to get some ice cream.
And when we did go to the pharmacy to pick up his medicine, we still had to wait. Which it was Julie’s bedtime, so you can imagine how well behaved she was being.
Sigh.
The good news is that Jax thinks that his medicines are so cool! He is very willing to let me doctor him up!
***I did take some pictures of it, mainly so I can compare to make sure it is getting better, not worse. But I’m not going to post them because it’s pretty gross looking.
You’re welcome.
